Addiction

The Addiction Project is an unprecedented multi-platform campaign aimed at helping Americans understand addiction as a chronic but treatable brain disease. Debuting Thursday, March 15 (9:00-10:30 p.m. ET/PT) on HBO® with the centerpiece documentary 'Addiction', the project uses all of the network's digital platforms, including the HBO main service, multiplex channels, HBO On Demand®, podcasts and web streams. All films in the 14-part documentary series will initially be offered during a free HBO preview weekend from Thursday, March 15 to Sunday, March 18 in participating cable systems. The project is produced by HBO in partnership with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA).

      Centerpiece Film: 'Addiction'

      The feature-length documentary film 'Addiction' is the centerpiece of the project and debuts March 15 on HBO. Bringing together the nation's leading experts with award-winning filmmakers, it consists of nine separate segments. Watch an excerpt from the film.

      Supplementary Series: 'A Mother's Desperation'

      The story of one mother's attempt to rescue her daughter from her heroin addiction - a more complete telling of the story introduced in the centerpiece show, 'Addiction.' Watch


      Supplementary Series: 'The Adolescent Addict'

      The adolescent brain is not fully developed, making a young person extremely vulnerable to drug and alcohol addiction. Co-occurring disorders such as anxiety or depression are typically present with adolescent addicts. It is stressed that identifying and treating these problems, as well as the addiction, are crucial. Experts discuss how families can deal with the challenging dynamics of an addicted adolescent while at the same time seeking the right treatment. Watch

      'In the Valley of Elah' In the Valley of Elah

      On his first weekend back after serving in Iraq, Mike Deerfield (Jonathan Tucker) goes missing and is reported AWOL. When Hank Deerfield (Tommy Lee Jones), a former military MP and his wife Joan (Susan Sarandon) get the phone call with the disturbing news, Hank sets out to search for their son. Local police detective Emily Sanders (Charlize Theron) reluctantly helps him in his search and soon finds herself in a fight with the military brass. When the truth about Mike's time in Iraq finally begins to emerge, Hank's entire world is challenged and he's forced to reevaluate long-held beliefs to solve the mystery behind his son's disappearance.
