Prom Should be Fun!!
While skimming through the World's Best Prom extra features, I was taken aback by Susan Sarandon's response to the first person who asked her to prom: "I said yeah...it's just one of those things you have to do. Like getting a flu shot." I couldn't help but think, "Wow! How much of prom is something we have to do like a flu shot?" It seems like there are a lot of have to's out there when it comes to proms: I have to have a nice date, I have to have my nails done, I have to spend X amount of money. But the biggest have to of all really ought to be I have to have fun! If you're having fun, you forget about all the flu-shot-have-to's. Why do you think doctors give out lolly-pops when it's all said and done? Prom night should be one giant lolly-pop at the end of the flu-shot-have-to's!

(Page 1)2. I loved all the things we had to do at prom. All the ritual it involved. I mean yes, it was a little stressful at times but all that stress...i look back on it and think it is so funny. All the drama and worry about the perfect dress and date. My date and dress ended up being perfect. I had the time of my life at prom. Its what comes after it that sucks.

3. I loved all the stress that came with prom. It made it so fun. I think back on it all now and I just laugh at all the drama. I see my highschool friends all the time and sometimes we have reminiscing sessions about prom and its like, oh woh, that was such a fun time in our lives. All that responsibility we thought we had was nothing compared to what has come now that i have graduated from college and have to contend with getting a real job.

4. Prom sucked big time. Thats all I have to say about it. Too much hassle for a very little reward. Too much expense and too many annoying people trying to force you into having a good time.

5. At my high school in a small Pennsylvania town, tickets were sold only to couples. You couldn't go stag and you couldn't bring a friend of the same sex just for the sake of participating in a teenage ritual. For this reason, many people at my school never even attended prom.

1. For my high school, in a blue collar town in the Rustbelt, prom was all about 'have to do'. It wasn't the students.
It was the teachers. It was the principal. It was the parents. It was the Yearbook Club that dedicated pages and pages to covering the event. It was the school newspaper that had photographers and reporters. Everybody expected everyone to help decorate the gym months ahead, to vote for prom court, to dress up properly, to have a date, to do all the typical things they thought we had to do.
Yeah, it was a blast.
