Oscars 2008: Winner Reactions

Daniel Day-Lewis

Best Actor, 'There Will Be Blood'

"I'm very much looking forward to all the milkshakes I can drink for the next 25 years or so."

Oscars 2008: Winner Reactions

Marion Cotillard

Best Actress, 'La Vie en Rose'

"I'm totally overwhelmed with joy and then sparkles and fireworks and everything which goes like bam, bam, bam! I just ache all those things and it's happening right here, right now. "

Oscars 2008: Winner Reactions

Javier Bardem

Best Supporting Actor, 'No Country for Old Men'

"Thank you to the Coens for being crazy enough to think that I could do that and put one of the most horrible haircuts in history over my head."

Oscars 2008: Winner Reactions

Tilda Swinton

Best Supporting Actress, 'Michael Clayton'

"I really just had a reverse 'Zoolander' moment when I think I heard someone else's name and suddenly slowly heard my own. I'm still recovering from that moment, and I have absolutely no idea what happened after that. So, you know, you can tell me my dress fell off and I'd believe you."

Oscars 2008: Winner Reactions

Ethan Coen and Joel Coen

Best Picture/Director/Adapted Screenplay, 'No Country for Old Men'

"I think whatever success we've had in this area has been entirely attributable to how selective we are. We've only adapted Homer and Cormac McCarthy." -- Joel Coen, on he and brother Ethan taking home the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay

Oscars 2008: Winner Reactions

Diablo Cody

Best Original Screenplay, 'Juno'

"Tonight's show, I'm not sure I saw it. I was into my own world of anxiety and stomach pain."

Oscars 2008: Winner Reactions

Glen Hansard

Best Original Song, 'Falling Slowly' from 'Once'

"Getting a text from Bono is one of the biggest things that can happen to an Irishman." -- Hansard, on receiving a congratulatory text message from his famous fellow countryman

Oscars 2008: Winner Reactions

Marketa Irglova

Best Original Song, 'Falling Slowly' from 'Once'

"This is such a big deal, not only for us, but for all other independent musicians and artists that spend most of their time struggling, and this, the fact that we're standing here tonight, the fact that we're able to hold this, it's just to prove no matter how far out your dreams are, it's possible."

Oscars 2008: Winner Reactions

Brad Bird

Best Animated Feature, 'Ratatouille'

"There's no way that I'm going to feel bad about winning an award, but, you know, if you ask me, 'Was "Snow White" one of the five best movies of 1937?,' I would say, 'Yeah, and they should have been up for one of the real Oscars rather than the one with the little, seven little men.'"

Oscars 2008: Winner Reactions

Dario Marianelli

Best Original Score, 'Atonement'

"I feel extremely proud to be Italian." -- Marianelli, alluding to the earlier Best Art Direction victory (for 'Sweeney Todd') of fellow Italians Dante Ferretti and Francesca Lo Schiavo

Oscars 2008: Winner Reactions

Alex Gibney

Best Documentary Feature, 'Taxi to the Dark Side'

"Yeah, it's back to the romantic comedies. It's a must now." -- Gibney, on whether he'd return to directing lighter fare now that he's won an Oscar for a heavy-themed documentary

Oscars 2008: Winner Reactions

Robert Elswit

Best Cinematography, 'There Will Be Blood'

"It feels great. It's a wacky [feeling]. Awards are silly in that sense that all the other people nominated are so extraordinary. Roger Deakins has seven nominations and no Academy Awards. He joins a long list."

Oscars 2008: Winner Reactions

Stefan Ruzowitzky

Best Foreign Film, 'The Counterfeiters'

"Forgive me, it was more important to be nominated than to be worried about those who are not nominated." -- Ruzowitzky, on the notable omissions from this year's Best Foreign Film race

Hollywood Sucks!!! I think movie viewers sent you smug idiots a message this year. "Who are these people" is exactly right. Where's the glamour, the class, the mega watt stars? Jon Stewart is not Oscar caliber for an mc. He is awesome at what he does, but fell flat at the Oscars. Where's Billy Crystal. He has class and is also very funny.I was very happy to see a few of our beautiful female stars there. Katherine Heigl won hands down for being the most beautiful, glamorous movie star at the Oscars.

re: xraygurl08's comment...... i agree!!! Johnny Depp is very gifted, very talented.. and I think the reason he gets snubbed and doesn't fit into the " upper echelon".. is because he doesn't sell his soul to hollywood to fit in. He does his own thing..and is not interested in being a part of the so called "IN CROWD".. yes there's politics in the movie industry too... you betcha. That's ok Johnny.. you won the Oscar in many of our hearts. Keep doing what ya do cuz we love ya!!

Johnny Depp is one of the most brilliantly gifted actors of my generation, yet he is not alone in being either snubbed or grossly overlooked. James Spader is another brilliant actor who shines in any role he has undertaken. Why?
