TOKYO, Dec 4 (Dec. 5) - Hollywood star Will Smith had the producer of his latest film holding his head in anguish on Tuesday after the actor gave away the ending of "I Am Legend."

Speaking at a Tokyo news conference, Smith inadvertently revealed the plot, prompting co-producer and co-screenwriter Akiva Goldsman to shout: "Don't give away the ending!"

Goldsman then pretended to be surprised, but it was all too late, and press handlers asked all present to keep the ending a secret, so as not to spoil it for viewers.

Smith plays a virologist fighting a man-made virus in "I Am Legend," the film adaptation of Richard Matheson's 1954 novel of the same title.

The movie premieres simultaneously in the United States and Japan on Dec. 14.

DVN999 how you can you sit there as if your some movie genius. This is just another remade movie infact the Basic (I am legend) story has beeen "knocked off" 3 times now (None as good as the book) #1 The last man on earth#2 Omega man #3 I am legend all about the same basic plot and story only minor (mostly time) orientated changes. You can't really believe that this is not a knock off. Cause it is 3x fold. Maybe you should leave intellegent conversation to intellegent people. So go back to your trailor and choke your chick K. DTMC924 I to used to like W S but as of recent he has been getting caught up with the fine Folks at Scientology I've done my research. I think he should have done his before becoming tom cruises little lap dog. I strongly disagree and ban anything to do with those wacko's. Getting into this CULT will ruin his life and career Have fun little Willy.

I read the book long ago or ones so much like it, what's the diff. It has to end badly or the message isn't harsh enough. Try reading "Genocide" -- about an alien invasion like none other. Gives me the creeps until this very day when I see rows and rows of planting pines. We don't survive in that one either. We're not going to survive in reality either -- just a matter of how long it's going to take for us to be gone's all. Space is the Final Frontier we are so not working toward it seems. Smith's a wonderful actor, by the way.

it was no accident It was all for publicity

Oh, and Neville gets kills himself at the end, with the help of a super vampire spy that infiltrated his house in the book. The vampires evolved into human-like creatures destroying the old vampires and ramaining humans (vampire hunters) convinced that the hunters are more like boogey men.

The book was made into 2 other movies before this one, and all are not even close to the book. It was not a man made virus in the book, the dog survives for one chapter unlike the new movie, Neville is white with blonde hair, and only listened to old records to keep himself sane at night while drinking. This new adaption I hope is entertaining, but how man times does a director have to ruin such a good book by not sticking to the original story?

First of all, to those that say it sounds like a cheap rip-off of "The Omega Man" they are wrong. "The Omega Man" was based on the Richard Matheson novel "I Am Legend". This is just another adaptation of the novel and "Cheap" I think not considering the actors involved.
As for the ending being revealed... You mean to tell me that no one believes that the guy gets the girl in every romantic comedy and thats why they go see it? That every "buddy cop" film doesn't have some ridiculous catch phrase that will be used ad nauseum until one "buddy cop" saves his partner and/or partners significant other or family member? C'mon... Lets face facts that all movies today force feed the general public the same regurgitated crap with the same endings and judging by the box office numbers, the lowest common denominator in America flocks to the theater to shell out their hard earned cash for the same plot with different stars-du-jour. I go to movies to see how they get to the ending, thats where
