(Dec. 21) - Sacha Baron Cohen, who rose to fame playing comic -- and sometimes ridiculous -- characters, has decided to retire two of the personalities that made him a star.

In an interview with the Telegraph as himself, the English actor says he will no longer play either Ali G or Borat.

"When I was being Ali G and Borat I was in character sometimes 14 hours a day and I came to love them, so admitting I am never going to play them again is quite a sad thing," he admits.

Baron Cohen made a name for himself with these popular personalities, which he used to surprise unsuspecting people in interviews or other real life situations.

Both Ali G and Borat appeared on his successful 'Da Ali G Show' on HBO. Borat was later spun-off into his own movie, which grossed over $128 million at the US box office.

"It is like saying goodbye to a loved one. It is hard, and the problem with success, although it's fantastic, is that every new person who sees the 'Borat' movie is one less person I 'get' with Borat again, so it's a kind of self-defeating form, really," Baron Cohen adds.

The actor, who's fiancee Isla Fisher recently gave birth to their first child, can be seen next in Tim Burton's horror-musical 'Sweeney Todd.'

I loved watching him as ali g. I am sorry he is retiring these characters!

The success of those characters depended very much on people actually believing they were real. Once BORAT became such a household name I knew he would have to retire that character, and certainly the Ali along with him.

Cohen is brilliant at whatever he does. I'll be sorry to see them go, but there's a lot ahead for this guy. I'm looking forward to it. He was INCREDIBLE in SWEENEY TODD--steals the movie while he's on. Go see it!

Two of perhaps the freshest, original, hysterical characters in many, many years. I will miss them both, and I a not counting Baron Cohen out for the count... you know he's got something else up his sleeve.
