(Feb. 26) - After months of denying that he would return for a fourth installment in the highly lucrative "Bourne" franchise, Matt Damon appears ready to stop denying and start shooting -- "Bourne 4," that is.

Damon has signed on for an as-yet-untitled fourth chapter in the saga of amnesiac assassin Jason Bourne, Variety confirms.

'Spider-Man 4' & 'Spider-Man 5'
With rumors swirling that the next two installments of the Spidey franchise will be shot back-to-back, the big question is: Will stars Tobey Maguire (Spider-Man/Peter Parker) and Kirsten Dunst (Mary Jane Watson) and director Sam Raimi be back?

Paul Greengrass, who helmed both "The Bourne Supremacy" and last summer's box-office juggernaut "The Bourne Ultimatum," will return to the director's chair.

A release date and plot for "Bourne 4" are still pending. The first three films take their names, the initial premise of an assassin afflicted with memory loss, and some characters from the Robert Ludlum novels on which they are based, but share little else in common with the books. Although two more "Bourne" tomes exist, neither was written by Ludlum, and it is unlikely the upcoming film will draw upon them for inspiration.

I'm a bit upset that they're making a fourth, as much as I love the Bourne movies (so much better than Bond), I thought the third ended very well and I was very happy with it. When you go beyond the number of books, it starts smelling overdone. In my mind, the more sequels you make, the greater the risk you run that it won't be as good. Especially since they said that their standard was if they couldn't make it as good or better than the previous ones, they wouldn't. I think Ultimatum will be tough to follow, which is why I'm not too enthusiastic. I'd probably see it, if only to see it, but I'll definitely check its user ratings on imdb beforehand.

Maybe they do a prequil and go back to when him and nikki were together... and explain why he choose to join the agency in the first place...

triforcetaters 04:57:01 PM Feb 29 2008

Bourne Legacy ftw

aggiebabybj 04:56:35 PM Feb 29 2008

As long as they take it somewhere it's not been before, I think it will be great. It is possible to take things too far, but if the plot makes sense, it will do good. I'll be there to see it for sure!!!!
