Lindsay Lohan Reveals 'Hard' Recovery

Reflecting on the troubles that landed her in rehab last year, Lindsay Lohan told PEOPLE "I was putting myself in the wrong situations and I didn't have the focus in the right place." Now the actress is trying to reinvigorate her film career. "I think this is what I love to do," she told the magazine. Here she poses during a March 6 photography exhibit she hosted.

Later this month, Lohan's new film 'Chapter 27' is due to be released. In it she plays a John Lennon fan who befriends the ex-Beatle's assassin, Mark David Chapman, played by Jared Leto.

Talking about her past hard-partying ways with Paper magazine, Lohan said the life of an actress is "go-go-go, and the easiest thing was to run away from it, going out and drinking at night." She then turned apologetic, saying "I didn't realize it was getting in the way of my work -- what I've worked for my whole life."

On the eve of this year's Oscars, Lohan was awarded three Razzies for her work in 'I Know Who Killed Me,' in which she played two roles. She won two by finishing in a tie with herself for Worst Actress and won another for Worst Screen Couple for a scene in which her two characters meet.

Many thought Lohan's recreation of Marilyn Monroes legendary "last sitting" for the Feb. 25 issue of New York magazine was inappropriate, citing the substance abuse that has plagued Lohan and killed Monroe.

In January, video surfaced of Lohan taking a drink from a bottle of champagne during a New Year's Eve party in Italy. "The good news was that Lindsay stopped herself that night, called her sponsor, and got herself immediately back on track," said Lohan's lawyer, Blair Berk.

Though she first went into rehab in January 2007, Lohan's problems really started to spiral out of control on May 26 of that year. That day she told ELLE magazine she would never drive drunk. Just a few hours later, she hopped the curb and hit a tree while inebriated.

Two nights later, she had to be helped out of the nightclub Teddy's, where she had been partying with her friend Samantha Ronson.

That night, paparazzi found Lohan passed out in the passenger seat of her car, with Ronson at her side. There was speculation that Ronson tipped off photographers as to Lohan's state and location.

WOW!!!! I am amazed...I love the comments about how stupid she is...those of you speaking about al-anon meetings.... try something new... go to a NA meeting....Thats right for narcotics.... Its not easy getting clean....give her a break...those of you who are talking about bad choices are you honestly going to lie and say you are proud of EVERY decision you have ever made... if you do PLEASE!!!!! get a reality check.. the rest of you who think drugs are uncommon... do some reseach... Drugs are everywhere...jr high kids are getting drugs putting them under their nails so they can get high in school.... open your eyes... I agree it was a bad decision but heck... I went to rehab but stop pinning this girl to a wall look at the multiple other stars who are addicted...why is she crucified for it?

She looks tired and overweight! My hubby got the boobs thing, but c'mon. Why would she latch on to a dead icon of drugs and booze over-dose. Dumb. Get rid of mamma gal...go your own way or you'll be a gonner. Jees, this is a no-brainer, "A mommy who is a wanna be...to raise your kid to be who you wanted to be."..very sad...

there is nothing stupider than using drugs for the first time. You want a nightmare of life? Then do it. Drinking alcohol paves the way to becoming an alcoholic for many people, the two of those things will turn a family upside down, destroy healthy lives, and eventually kill. The fun turns into something you cannot control. It is the devil personafied.
Don't believe that? Go to an Al-anon meeting and listen.

Except using the word stupider...
Drinking doesn't automatically make you an alcoholic. Some people are just born with a predisposition to substance abuse, others develop substance abuse problems later in life due to unfortunate circumstances. Not everyone who drinks is or will become an alcoholic.
As for drugs...I have to agree with you there. Pretty stupid thing to do.

THESE GIRLS, WOMEN, KIDS ARE, HEADING DOWNHILL ON LEDGER ROAD, ON A ROCKET SLED, AND NOBODY SEEMS SEEMS TO CARE. I DO, BECAUSE OF BEEN THERE,,,DONE THAT. BUT HOW DOES ONE REACH THEM? ONLY MY CIRCLE WASN'T RICH ENOUGH TO KEEP A STEADY FLOW. EVEN THE "PARENTS" SEEM TO CARE MORE ABOUT THE MONEY THAN THEIR KID. SOMEWHERE BETWEEN TEEN AND 25, THEY SHOULD HAVE SOME KIND OF MENTOR! OBVIOUSLY THE "BECAUSE I WANT TO, BECAUSE I CAN" APPROACH DOESN'T WORK.
