celtmyst33,I think i,m fairly well informed about the situation in NORTHERN IRELAND since my father was born and raised there! and I HAVE A LIFETIME OF RESEARCH AND HAVE SPENT MUCH TIME IN THE NORTH MYSELF! yes they were courageous men whose courage was missplaced, yes they were part of an oppressed population, still at the end of the day imho their actions did not much to further the cause of the nationalist community, I STAND BY WHAT I,VE SAID!

I for one know personally how the hungerstikes affected people...My father was a hungerstriker in Long Kesh(The Maze) and I for one am all for this movie...And for anyone to think that it is all over up there is wrong.....Go and live there for a month and you will see that the British are still a major presence in Northern Ireland and that the Irish will never rest until it is all united...I commend anyone who can take on the role of comrade Sands and pull it off so greatly....Tiocfaidh Ar La....

Shame on you Tucson2212! You need to read more about the situation. Those men were political prisoners...there had been no trial or conviction. They had simply been detained! They had no other means to get the world to take note of the atrocities at The Maze in the H block.
God bless Bobby Sands.

at the end of the day what did sands and the other hunger strikers really accomplish?the war and atrocities continued on for many years after his and the other strikers deaths.a waste of a life in my opinion,he could have done so much more if he had lived and put down the gun and bomb and lived peace and forgiveness. John Hume now that,s a hero!
