Ellen Page Freshens Up 'Eyre'

(May 6) - Ellen Page is trading her maternity wear for a corset.
The actress, who earned an Oscar nod for her turn as a pregnant teen in 2007's "Juno," is set to play one of English literature's most famous heroines in a new adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's "Jane Eyre," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Since her star-making role in "Juno," Page has been in hot demand, signing on for the Drew Barrymore-directed roller-derby comedy "Whip It" and the psychological thriller "Peacock." She also took the lead in the Sam Raimi horror flick "Drag Me to Hell," before dropping out due to scheduling conflicts. "Eyre" marks her first foray into period pieces.
BBC Films is developing this incarnation of the classic 1847 novel that tells the epic love story of a governess and her master, Edward Rochester. With no fewer that 20 TV and film adaptations to its name, "Eyre" is among the most filmed English novels of all time. It last graced the big screen in 1996, with Franco Zeffirelli directing and Charlotte Gainsbourg in the title role.
