(April 20) - One of Robert Downey Jr.'s co-stars from the upcoming superhero flick 'Iron Man' believes that the actor's history of troubles off the screen will help the audience bond with his character.

"There are things we know about just from reading the newspaper," says Jeff Bridges to the New York Times. Bridges plays a villain to Downey Jr.'s weapons-dealer-turned-hero Tony Stark in the much-anticipated movie opening May 2. "He doesn't have to do anything to make it happen. The audience brings that darker part of the story into the theater. And his wit and improvisation bring it home."

In an interview with the Times, Downey prefers not to talk about his past struggles with drugs or harp on the time be spent behind bars. "It has struck me lately that I don't have to talk about last century at all."

But Downey does say that his jail sentence makes him a something of a Hollywood outsider.

"I have a really interesting political point of view, and it's not always something I say too loud at dinner tables here, but you can’t go from a $2,000-a-night suite at La Mirage to a penitentiary and really understand it and come out a liberal. You can't. I wouldn't wish that experience on anyone else, but it was very, very, very educational for me and has informed my proclivities and politics every since."

I commend him on opening his eyes to the real America while in jail. Being incarcerated can humble a person and bring them to face truths they never knew existed.

I think Mr. Downey's Lucky to feel the way he does of his prison experience.

Also, he had a lot of support and to look forward as he was there. He knew he'd one day be back enjoying the $2k suite.

He is cute. Just saw his photos on a celebrity and millionaire dating site called wealthysoulmate.com. Don't know if it is him.

I'm glad Robert Downey, Jr has made a strong comeback. He's clean, sober and still married. That says a lot in my book. I look at other stars like Mark Wahlberg, who has also come a long way and taken the lead role in films. People do grow up and change their lives along the way. It's inspiring!

MjFaris................Downey did his time and came out a better man. He has been clean and sober for quite some time now, and I think he deserves our praise and encouragement for maintaining his sobriety.

faithoftheheart0-Who are you to speak of immorality? Doesn't the Bible preach forgiveness? You should be ashamed of yourself.

Downey is a talented actor. However, it seems so very Hollywood that he has this movie deal. I read the interview with him in Parade magazine. Everyone deserves another chance but given how many aspiring actors there are. Isn't there someone more deserving than Downey? Is it just about name recognition and talent? I'm not going to waste my time to see this movie. I'm a liberal. But it would be nice to see someone not be rewarded for past bad behavior. But that's how it is nowadays. God bless all the parents trying to raise decent people.

I am so proud of Robert for kicking his drug habit..not an easy thing to do. I am also happy that he is so loved and in love with his wife. He is a very very talented actor..I'm not into "Iron Man"...but I love most of his movies.

I just saw the Iron Man animated movie. I was a little disappointed but this looks much better. I've seen a few trailers for The Incredible Hulk also. I think it will be way better than the 2003 film.
