(Jan. 18) - The cavalcade of Tom Cruise videos discussing his work as a Scientologist continues.

One of the new clips posted on Gawker (scroll down to second video) shows Cruise slamming the federal government, its response to 9/11 and touting his own work in helping New York City's firefighters.

Scientology, Stars
And Controversy

1 of 16

Will and Jada Pinkett Smith are opening a private school in Los Angeles this year that will use teaching methods developed by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard called "study technology." But the school's director insists the facility has no religious affiliation. The couple have long denied being members of the church.

"A Scientologist is someone who can look at the world and really see what it is... and be effective and do something about it. And someone who's not asking permission to do that. Why ask permission? We are the authorities!," Cruise tells his off-screen interviewer, according to a transcript from Page Six.

The narrator then takes over as footage of Cruise and New York City firefighters rolls.

"(Cruise) first saw the dust and heard the cough when descending to the ruins and where he bolstered morale among firemen. The devastation had spread an unprecedented combination of toxins through the air -- and it was lethal."

The camera then cuts back to Cruise who declares, "The EPA came out and said the air was clean. Of course, as a Scientologist you go, 'That's a lie, out[right] lie...' You know you just go, 'Liar. Fine.' "

The narrator then goes on to talk of the two detoxification centers that Cruise helped open in New York City and Long Island, for which he raised over $1 million and received hundreds of thousands of dollars in city funds.

Tom Cruise's Scientology
Video Controversy

1 of 9

While most copies of the now infamous Tom Cruise Scientology video were disappearing from the Internet, the folks at Gawker held their ground, proudly hosting "The Cruise Indoctrination Video Scientology Tried To Suppress."

One of the fundraisers held in New York last April stirred controversy, as it brought attention the centers' methods, which involve high doses of Niacin and frequent saunas.

"What came out of it, they were feeling much better and not utilizing their medications as much as before," Ed Mullins, president of the Sergeants Benevolent Association, told The New York Post at the time.

Others have expressed their doubts.

"This is just hocus-pocus," said Dr. Bob Hoffman of the New York City Poison Control Center in 2004.

I used to date a girl who was (or rather is) a scientologist and worked there at the NYCDetox center. The day she went for her interview I met a participant who claimed he was 'doing much better than before'. Also, there was another guy who was like super positive about it. He was one of the first to go through the program. I don't talk to her anymore so I don't know how those people are doing. And, I'm a real estate investor not a doctor so I'm only going by what I heard participants say. Don't hate she was a sexy scientologist and I think truley only wanted to help people as much as she knew how. I learned some cool stuff from her anyway.

I've done the detox program Mr. Cruise talks about and it worked great. I'll take vitamins anyday over psyc-meds and their side effects. BIG PHARMA wants you-on meds that is.

I've done the detox procedure Mr. Cruise talks about and it worked great. The vitamin dosages you take are only for a few weeks while you're on the program so no big deal. Much much better than psycho meds with their side effects which BIG PHARMA makes so much money off of.

I used to be such a big fan, but the more I've seen him talking about how Scientologists (and of course himself) are so perfect - the more I think the man has totally lost it. I hope he gets some help - he needs it!
