BBC News.

Welsh-born star Bale, who will next be seen in this summer's eagerly anticipated Batman sequel "The Dark Knight," is the third actor to play John Connor on the big screen. Edward Furlong originated the part in "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," and Nick Stahl took over the reins in "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines."
Set in the near future, "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins," the fourth installment in the saga, finds Bale's Connor leading the post-Judgment Day human resistance against any army of lethal self-aware machines.
Although Bale was the No. 1 choice for the adult Connor, Kubicek and Anderson weren't always convinced they would get him. "With 'Batman' he's already done the whole franchise thing, so we weren't sure he'd respond," admitted Kubicek.
Luckily, said Anderson, "He read the script and he loved it, so he's signed on for all three."
Bale and director McG ("Charlies Angels") have already begun filming "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins." Rapper Common and rising star Sam Worthington (James Cameron's upcoming "Avatar") are also attached to star, though producers were keeping mum as to whether current California governor and former Terminator Arnold Schwarzenegger would make an appearance.
"Terminator Salvation" is set to hit theaters on May 22, 2009.
