The actor's (McConaughey) lovable exuberance is exactly what this heartsick movie needs.
Read the full reviewWe Are Marshall is precisely what one expects from a true sports story: it's uplifting and inspiring.
Read the full reviewThe film is injected with a refreshing energy whenever McConaughey is on-screen, balancing some of the inherent sadness of the story.

Read the full reviewFull of good intentions, We Are Marshall has a game plan that's hard to fault, but as with any playbook, a scheme is only as good as how well it's executed.
Read the full reviewWhat should have been an inspirational story about fortitude and courage in the face of mind-numbing tragedy becomes a compendium of sports cliches.
Read the full reviewWe Are Marshall has little of the bone-crunchingsincerity of the recent pigskin rouser "Invincible." This one is more like Unconvincing.
Read the full reviewIts use of trite "Win one for the Gipper" dialogue, overbearing soaring music and conventional plot devices makes it far too formulaic to truly move us.
Read the full reviewA movie like We Are Marshall stands or falls on its ability to make you feel the pain and loss of individuals in a place where community pride and football are one and the same. As the film, directed by McG (the "Charlie's Angels" movies) from a wooden screenplay by Jamie Linden, follows a handful of Huntington residents during the months after the accident, not one of them comes fully to life.

Read the full reviewMay not be a very enjoyable movie, but at least the badness is in good taste.

sadly uplifting
"Unlike most movie critics who are actors that never made it, I must say I truly enjoyed this movie. My wife, who does not like football said this was a darn good film and recommends it to all women. A sad but true story."
Excellent
"I was a young girl of 12 years old when this tragedy happened. I will never forget hearing it on the news and ppl talking about it. It was a moving and heartfelt tribute to all involved. I can't believe I didn't go to the movies to see this film. God Bless to all!"
I Remember
"I grew up in Hungtington, WV and remember the day when the plane crash. I had gone to school with some kids who had lost both of their parents in that crash. After all this time it seems like it happened yesterday. We bleed green. Go Herd."
We Are Marshall -- A Great Movie
"Since I was at Marshall at the time of the crash, I may not be the most objective critic, but I think the movie did a superb job of capturing the searing tragedy and final uplifting victory of the Thundering Herd football team. Although there were some details dramatically altered (no Boone's Restaurant, for example)most of the touches are literally true, such as the team meeting at Spring Hill Cemetary, the six-pack of beer, and the crowd staying on the field for hours after the upset victory. It was an extraordinary story told faithfully and respectfully."
The Coan's practical joke
"Skillfully acted, brilliant dialog, beautiful photography. The Coan's at their best. Tension raised to a high level from the first scene. Ultimately very boring. Like hearing the same joke over and over."
I lived in Huntington WVA
"I lived there when this happened, I remember it well, the feels that I and my friends felt that night. Watching on TV, we kept hoping it wasn;t real. The one thing I don;t remember and still cant place is the BOONE' s restraunt. Could someone please tell me where that was?"
Marshall
"the movie tells the tale of those left behind, and how what seems like a small town in Hunington WV healed as a community. there are times that tbe movie drags. For those that live or have lived the life a football thru family or community you get will get it."
True
"The reality is that this happened and many families were devasted. The actors were amazing and this was a moving tear jerker."
