Mac, Duhamel set for 'Transformers' movie
05/07/06Bernie Mac and Josh Duhamel are set to star in Michael Bay's "Transformers: The Movie" for DreamWorks and Paramount. Live-action production starts lensing this month, with release scheduled for July 4, 2007. Story centers on the central saga of the Autobots vs. the Decepticons. Mac will play a salesman who sells Shia LaBeouf's character his first Transformer. Jon Voight, Megan Fox, John Turturro, John Robinson and Travis Van Winkle round out the cast.
'Transformers' taps Voight
05/02/06Jon Voight has joined the cast of Michael Bay's big-budget actioner "The Transformers: The Movie."
The DreamWorks/Paramount live-action production starts lensing later this month, with release scheduled for July 4, 2007. Voight is the latest actor confirmed by the studio in a cast that has received a lot of attention online. While a casting list recently leaked onto the Internet, many of the rumored names are not likely to end up in the film. Budgeted well north of $100 million, "Transformers" is based on the comicbook, cartoon and Hasbro toy line hugely popular in the 1980s. Story centers on the central saga of the Autobots vs. the Decepticons.
'Dallas' does date shift
03/30/06Fox has undated the bigscreen version of "Dallas," previously set for Nov. 10, and hasn't yet set a new release date. Fox reps said the pic wouldn't be ready in time for its previous date. Among other upcoming releases, Par has moved toon "Barnyard" to the summer and Warner has scheduled its 2007 potential blockbusters. "Barnyard" is now scheduled for July 28. Meanwhile, Warner has claimed July 13, 2007, for "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix." That's the next frame after July 4, which DreamWorks and Par have claimed for "Transformers."
'Transformers' finds Shia boy
03/29/06Michael Bay's big-budget action pic "The Transformers: The Movie" finally has a face to join all the shape-changing robots. Shia LaBeouf is in final negotiations to play a lead role in the DreamWorks/Paramount live-action production. Shooting starts in late May with a July 4, 2007 bow already flagged on the release schedule. Budgeted well north of $100 million, "Transformers" will see LaBeouf star as the unlikely hero Sam in the project based on comic book cartoon and Hasbro toy line hugely popular in the 1980s. Story centers on the central saga of the Autobots vs. the Decepticons. "Transformers" has been a major tentpole priority for the two studios and the rest of the cast is expected to be finalized shortly.
Bay to direct 'Transformers'
04/05/05Fresh off DreamWorks' "The Island," action director Michael Bay is lining up to direct "Transformers" for DreamWorks and Paramount. The live-action film, which Steven Spielberg is exec producing, is scheduled for a Thanksgiving 2006 release. Shooting will begin in the fall. Dubbed "robots in disguise," The Transformers spawned a comicbook series, TV show and animated feature in the 1980s. This is Hollywood's first attempt to transform them to the live-action screen.
