This is one of Anthony Hopkins' most endearing, least showy performances.

The World's Fastest Indian might be the world's worst title for a charming, slice-of-life biopic.

Does what it sets out to do: educates about a mostly unknown historical figure (without doctoring the facts too much), entertains, and uplifts.

Sometimes shticky biopic overcomes its cornball conventionality to become a genial entertainment, thanks to Anthony Hopkins' exceptionally engaging performance.

Based on the real-life exploits of Munro, it's a boilerplate fish-out-of-water/road trip/underdog sports movie -- but it's a heck of a ride with Hopkins leading the way.

The New York Times | Stephen Holden

This is a film that wears a smile button on its sleeve along with its happy heart. It believes that most people are absolutely wonderful, and it is well enough made so that a dusting of that dogged optimism is bound to rub off on you.

Hopkins delivers such a warm, winning performance that it's hard not to be won over by his loopy charm and monomaniacal passion. The film is about a man whose need for speed takes on an existential and spiritual dimension, but it's precisely its rambling, meandering, unhurried affability that makes it such a low-key pleasure.

The cockeyed devotion with which writer-director Roger Donaldson dramatizes the story of New Zealand motorcycle legend Burt Munro and his classic 1920 bike in The World's Fastest Indian is in direct proportion to the cockeyed devotion with which Munro himself pursued his lifetime goal of setting a land-speed record at Bonneville Flats, Utah.

The film is at its best in Utah, both because in David Gribble's exhilarating cinematography we finally get to feel the full power and intoxication of the sport.

As the movie's tag line has it, it's based on a hell of a story. Too bad they didn't just tell it.

"This is a great family movie and is a must-see for all racing and motorcycleing fans alike. This is a movie with true facts humor, and while you learn and take away things from this movie, it doesn't bore you to death. It does quite the oppisite."

anthony Hopkins best picture

"I kid you not...what a great movie and a great story. The only other movie that would compare, if it were made, would be a movie about Nikola Tesla. This movie is about a man who has a strong passion for motorcycles. Anthony Hopkins is such a great actor and he convinces me that he is Burt Monro, period. Standing ovation for Sir Anthony Hopkins a great performance. Encore ! Encore!"

worlds fastest indian

"Best picture. Best actor. Period. The critics didn't seem impressed with this movie. I can't understand that. Our expectations have been lowered because the majority of movies are mediocre at best. This is a movie I actually paid to see twice !!!! Nothing blows up and no one dies a bloody death. This is a movie for those who appreciate intelligent, thoughtful movies. Go and enjoy. It's a rare movie"

The best movie of the year so far

"This was one of the best movies ... Hopkins is tremendous... a great human spirit movie and it will make you laugh so much, cry, gives you joy, have step backs , but this man was one of a kind. And how people can be kind and caring . This is what all movies should be made of. Get your engines started , one , two, three and go..................Dont miss it and go ..."

The World's Greatest Actor

"I have been a fan of Anthony Hopkins since Elephant Man. This is perhaps his greatest performance proving 'less is more'. So subtle, so relaxed, so superb."

What a Great Movie!!

"Why can't Hollywood make more movies like this one? This is probably Hopkins' best performance since "Silence of the Lambs". The supporting actors were just wonderful, so believable. This is a movie that everyone should enjoy. A great story about a man fulfilling his lifelong dream of racing his 1920s era Indian motorcycle at the Utah salt flats' Bonnieville raceway. Its a great "feel good" movie with all the emotions from laughs to tears. Why isn't this movie being promoted and widely distributed??? A real must-see movie."
