Sicko will scare people, and it probably should.

Sicko is likely Moore's most important, most impressive, most provocative film, and it's different from his others in significant ways.

Michael Moore intelligently, comically and incisively diagnoses and calls for the treatment of a sick U.S. health care system.

Sicko is Moore's best, most focused movie to date -- much more persuasive than the enraged and self-righteous "Fahrenheit 9/11."

In a summer of dumb, shameless drivel, Moore delivers a movie of robust mind and heart. You'll laugh till it hurts.

I have only one complaint, and it is this: Every American should be as fortunate as I have been. As Moore makes clear in his film, some 50 million Americans have no insurance and no way to get it.

The Cuban escapade, designed to provoke, backfires when he loses focus by including Cuban firefighters in an homage to 9/11 first responders.

As a documentary, this movie has the same problems as all of those in Moore's oeuvre; as a polemic or a visual op-ed piece, it's an effective piece of filmmaking.

The problem with Sicko--one endemic to Moore documentaries in general--is that it never confronts any challenges to its position, which can make it seem like the crudest sort of agitprop.

Lots of Sicko stands as boffo political theater, but its major domo lost me by losing his sense of humor.

An affecting and entertaining dissection of the American health care industry, showing how it benefits the few at the expense of the many.

Though it has its share of voice-over exposition and comic stock footage, the film's real purpose is to aggregate individual health-care horror stories into a portrait of the profit-driven and (literally) inhospitable place our country has become.

Sicko is the least controversial and most broadly appealing of Mr. Moore?s movies. (It is also, perhaps improbably, the funniest and the most tightly edited.) The argument it inspires will mainly be about the nature of the cure, and it is here that Mr. Moore?s contribution will be most provocative and also, therefore, most useful.

Washington Post | Stephen Hunter

Ladies and gentlemen, I think we can agree on two things: The American health-care system is busted and Michael Moore is not the guy to fix it. His Sicko, an investigation and indictment of a system choking on paperwork, greed, bad policy and countervailing goals, turns out to be a fuzzy, toothless collection of anecdotes, a few stunts and a bromide-rich conclusion.

caring means sharing

"The best point made: America cannot be a good nation until we start caring for each other. Having been brain washed for decades about the fears of socialism really did damage to the betterment of our nation. Universal health care will not make anyone suffer....it's not what is it about. Funny how the best thing going for America is the military. I believe the point was made; if we can find money for war(especially one that isn't worth fighting) we can find money for free health care and maybe even free college education. (Free college is a dream from a middle class perspective... I'll have to worry about my health like so many others when something bad happens)"

Cuban Anyone ?

"We should have junkets to Cuba for healthcare. And maybe have all medical students do at least a Semester there.Congress should just hire some of the Canadian people to come and start a healthcare system here. Money could come from all of the rich pigs who oppose reform."

Outstanding

"Outstanding! Most people who take issue with Moore and his films have never seen his films. Reviewed the claims from the film and found Moore to be more credible than the CNN doctor. The most memorable moment in the film was the statement that the government of France is afraid of the people, whereas the American people are afraid of the government. Makes sense when one reads of very afraid Americans are to challenge authority."

SOFT DRINK REFILLS!!!!!!

"My wife and I enjoy going to a show frequenty and not have to spend a lot of money. Now Beltway 6 has change its policy of giving free soda refills. Instead of getting a refill, you have to pay full price for another soda. This is an outrage and a hostile greedy policy towards patrons. Its not that I cant afford to pay, Its the principle of the matter. I hate being ripped off and taken unfair advantage of. The management of Beltway 6 should be ashamed of themselves for making such a policy. I hope more people read this and pressure Beltway 6 to change this abusive attitude towards its customers. As a result of my experience today, I will probably go there less often. When you start taking the "bargain" out of bargain movies, it is just as well to go to the first run movie theatres."

THANK YOU, MR. MOORE!

"As a mental health provider and subscriber to a health care agency....I am finally thankful that Mr. Moore has made this movie to make all aware of the reality of our American system. Frightening, yes...inhuman, yes...reality based, yes....I am forever fighting for my patients and myself, in gaining the appropriate paid for coverage...WOW!...A MUST SEE FOR ALL!..AGAIN, THANK YOU, MR. MOORE..."

shave and go on a damn diet you muckraking pig

"i still maintain that using moore's tactics i could make a 'documentary' about mother theresa every bit as convincing as the twaddle he produces. let's see, film a couple hundred interviews, edit them, show only the more convincing five percent. oh yeah, it'd be oh so easy... like maybe interviewing a guy at the onset of his alzheimers (charlton heston). the thing that amazes me is the number of folk who put credence in this crap."
