Hopefully, the girls who see Nancy Drew this summer will take their cues from the smart, engaged, intellectually curious character Roberts so charmingly portrays.
Read the full reviewManages to navigate the era of cellphones and Mean Girls with retro nostalgia and wholesomeness, making it a rare girl-powered outing for tweens in an otherwise guy-centric summer.
Read the full reviewOnce the rote mystery elements take over, the film devolves into a second-rate whodunit for kids, but even then, Roberts' irrepressible cheeriness and curiosity in the face of danger proves too adorable to resist.
Read the full reviewThe culprit, I'd say, is the uninteresting casting of Miss Roberts in the title role. She's a pleasant enough performer, but her made-for-teen-TV acting style, a perky blandness, doesn't supply a clue as to the appeal of Nancy Drew after all these years.
Read the full reviewAn effective translation of the source material, but that's not necessarily a good thing.
Read the full reviewThe culture-clash procedural, which brings the small-town teen to big bad Hollywood, feels more perfunctory than inspired.
Read the full reviewThe movie's fodder for tweener girls with indiscriminate Nick TV addictions, but there's just enough wit on display to make you realize it could have been worse.
Read the full reviewThe mystery of Nancy Drew' is how a movie can get so many things right -- particularly the inspired casting of Emma Roberts as the spunky teenage sleuth -- yet ultimately disappoint.
Read the full reviewNancy Drew is 16, dresses like she's 12 and acts like she's about 45. And therein lies the problem with this adaptation of the beloved book series. The movie can't quite decide how old it wants to be -- or who it's for.
Read the full reviewAs it is, Nancy Drew stands as an example of how to take a foolproof, time-tested formula -- a young detective using smarts and determination to solve a case -- and mess it up with superficial cleverness and pandering hackwork. How this happened is hardly a mystery; botched adaptations are as common as BlackBerries in Hollywood. But it is nonetheless something of a crime.
Read the full reviewPurportedly an attempt to modernize the young detective's adventures for a new generation of tweens, the pic instead serves up stale mystery-movie cliches and overcooked red herrings in a thoroughly wooden adaptation.

Best movie EVER!!!
"Nancy Drew is the best movie ever, hands down. The question is, when will the Hardy boys have their turn??"
They Own the Night? They can keep it.
"They may own the night but not the box office. I went on the Saturday after the opening Friday. There was no one there, and for a very good reason: the film is silly. The fact that the two protagonists are also the exec producers may have something to do with the fact that the casting is less than great, and the script dull beyond belief. Supposedly taking place in 1988, a period when NYC was a lot worse than they make it out to be, the film has two or three shots of, get this, ED KOCH! He doesn't say "How am I doing?" because surely someone in production knew if he had the audience would have told him in no short order that the film was well below a majority in terms of favoribility. Robert Duvall is THE greatest disappointment. As the deputy Chief of Police he's about as sharp as blunt force trauma. Let's face it, he's past doing roles like this. I should ammend that by saying he's beyond relying on directors who can't tap into his real genius. Marky-Mark turns in a good angry performance, toned down from his superb cop in "The Departed". After a tepid tough guy start he is relegated to rumiating over Dad's death and his own PTSD. (what a bad shot the Russian hit man was at point blank range!) Only Joaquin Phoenix manages to give a full effort with lots of tears over his family betrayal. He even manages to seem slightly naive about everything when the film starts. But that's not really explored any more than the easy to ripen relationship between the two brothers and their father. The only intelligent thing that happens in the movie is that Phoenix's girlfriend, played beautifully by Eva Mendes, leaves him because he decides to become a cop at the age of about 40! He's out of the Paladium lifestyle for good!!My favorite moment is when Phoenix's up to then body guard and tough guy, who is supposed to resemble Jerry Sp"
Never Cleaned My Teeth
"i was scheduled for a cleaning but i never received it but had a wisdom tooth extracted so there was only one good thing out of this...im not sure if anyone else has had a issue with him and also my wife is losing her tooth due to a failed filling which was put in too deep towards the nerve"
This is music
"I love this guy, the way he present his lyrics. You can't help but groove with him as he takes you away on a journey. This guy is the bomb.. Don't sleep on him."
Enjoyable Movie
"I LOVED Nancy Drew books and read them all as a young girl. (I still have about 4 but hadn't read them since youth) I was a little confused at the beginning as to what the "year" was, but within time, understood. I thot it was funny, interesting, suspenseful and a good CLEAN whodunit movie. I would like to take my 8 yr old grandaughter to see it. I started rereading my old books!!! I would have to say though, that the book Nancy Drew was alot "cooler" than in the movie. But all in all, I really enjoyed it and plan to buy the DVD when it comes out."
loved it!
"i loved this movie..it was always keeping you in suspense."
a darling reinterpretation
"I recently saw all four of the original Nancy Drew films. Nice, but not too exciting. Emma Roberts brings new life to the character. A delightful film that can inspire young women. Not a great film (when did you see a great film recently), but great fun. Normochka, MN."
TEEN APPROPRIATE MOVIES
"IT IS GOOD THAT THERE IS NO SEX OR CURSING IN THE MOVIE. HOLLYWOOD REALLY MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE IN MOST PG MOVIES TO TAKE OUR FAMILIES. SO ENLIGHTENING.WISH I COULD TAKE MY GRAND KIDS TO MORE MOVIES."
nancy drew-prefect movie! go see it now!
"" I went to go see nancy Drew with my family last night- 2 grownups, one 10 year old, one 15 year old and one 12 year old, and all of us age groups loved it!!! It was absolutely amazing!!! Emma Roberts made herself a highly appealing, cute teenager who inspires everyone with her sence of crime. The plot is so interesting, and even scary at some points wich makes it make you wanting more throughout the whole film until the very satisfying ending, providing all the information you wanted to understand. This is not your normal, mean girls with boyfriends throwing parties movie, its a movie for everyone thats awesome!!!! go see it now!!!!!!!!!!!!""
Would have been better.
"This movie was cute. I took my 13 year old cousin to it but unfortunately we both found it just a little annoying. Emma Roberts was just a little annoying. Cute but not great. I think it would have been better if they had set it in the actual times from the books. They were such great books this movie just didn't do them justice."
