This is the best movie I've seen in a decade. For once it's no hyperbole to say, "Unforgettable!"
Read the full reviewWatching Eternal Sunshine, you don't just watch a love story -- you fall in love with what love really is.
Read the full reviewNot only (Kaufman's) most accessible and romantic screenplay, it's his most complete. The third act works like a charm and pulls all his themes, characters and conflicts together beautifully.
Read the full reviewIf films about coping with memory loss and/or reverse-order storytelling now constitute a mini-genre, then Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is arguably the best of the lot.
Read the full reviewA surprisingly bittersweet love story at heart, Eternal Sunshine values the sum of experience, which in this case means a thorns-and-all openness to romantic possibilities.
Read the full reviewNeither wholly cynical nor wholly romantic, Kaufman's story is a balance of smarts and sentiment. It's the most fully realized working out of his two favorite obsessions: the subjective nature of experience and the psychological mysteries of pair bonding.
Read the full reviewA memory play and a sleight of hand, Eternal Sunshine is more than anything else deeply sincere. Like Spike Jonze, who directed "Adaptation" and "Being John Malkovich," Gondry succeeds principally by balancing Kaufman's churning skepticism with unflinching hope.
Read the full reviewDespite jumping through the deliberately disorienting hoops of its story, Eternal Sunshine has an emotional center, and that's what makes it work.
Read the full reviewIt is by turns comic, dark and surprisingly tender. If one must reduce it to simple description, call it a love story with a twist. Or a twisted love story.
Read the full reviewThis is unlike any other film I have seen... it's a great romance. It's willingness to flout conventions and eschew formulas is just one of many things to celebrate about this charmingly eccentric movie.
Read the full reviewChases so many ideas that it threatens to spin out of control. But with our multiplexes stuffed with toxic Hollywood formula, it's a gift to find a ballsy movie that thinks it can do anything, and damn near does.
Read the full reviewThis is the art-film Carrey: repressed, lovesick, unshaven. Essentially he's doing the same intellectual sad sack played by John Cusack in "Malkovich" and Nicolas Cage in "Adaptation"
Read the full reviewThe thinking is shallow. The emotions are tepid. But the creativity is dazzling. If that sounds like a slam, consider that most Hollywood screenplays are predictable, rote and functional -- and those are the good ones, folks.
Read the full reviewThis angular and intelligent romantic comedy isn't entirely consistent. Even as you laugh, it's a movie you admire more than love.

Hated It
"So many people are in love with this movie, but I personally couldn't stand it. I wish I could completely erase ever watching this movie from my mind. I did get it and understand what was going on, but it felt like trippin off some heavy acid. I'll admit, a lot of my friends enjoyed this...but I think some people say they liked it just so they can think they are sophisticated cuz this movie really doesnt taste good on everyones pallete..."
Loved It
"Clearly this movie is not for everyone. Its a beautiful adventure in self analysis, and though it is trippy, it also has a tender side, and tugs at the heart strings. This is one of those movies you have to get into, because youre not always aware of whats going on. once you get passed the trippy experience it really is a wonderful film. Besides, anyone named "Imcolettesbud" couldnt have very good taste in movies. They probably watch tired chick flicks with the same recycled plot from the last J Lo movie"
Not for the stupid people!
"The first time I watched this movie, I found it confusing, yet sweet; I got the gist of it. The more times I watch it, I am blown away by the deep psychological undertones. Definately a movie to be watched more than once. I am profoundly moved when I watch it now."
A New Kind of Movie
"This movie is confusing at first. But I love how it pieces together beautifully and nearly perfect. This movie is one of my favorites. It's a new kiond of movie, a romantic supernatural, weird mixture which makes for a great movie."
TRASH
"This movie sucked so bad that i fell asleep. When i woke up i continued to watch it,couldnt decide wether to throw up or shoot myself. Please dont waste any money on this garbage."
Help Lacuna
"First watched this movie in January. Watched it many times since. My family and friends think it's an obsession. The problem is that most other movies are so bad in comparison. Kate Winslet is brilliant. That's probably another obsession."
Unpredictable
"This movie was really good. It was well produced and very unpredictable. When I saw the preview for this movie, it looked boring but I guess I was wrong."
Amazingly well done movie
"Funny and touching in the right moments. The basic concept kept me thinking all the next day so I had to rewatch it that night. Now, I am determined to find the screenplay and read this masterpiece. If you are the kind of person that only likes movies to follow that same boring predictable pattern than this movie is not for you."
YES
"THIS IS THE BEST MOVIE EVER MADE. IT IS PERSONALLY MY FAVORITE AND EVERYONE SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO SEE THIS MOVIE SO FOR ONE SECOND THEY CAN REALIZE HOW GREAT SOMEONE CAN MAKE YOUR LIFE AND EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS MOVIE I LOVE!!!"
