Marshall reveals himself to be a terrific showman of chaos and comic savagery. This is Baz Luhrmann's "Mad Max."
Read the full reviewNeil Marshall's flair for visceral action more than compensates for his script's lack of conceptual novelty in Doomsday. Principally South Africa-shot tale of a post-apocalyptic Great Britain cobbles together large chunks of "Escape From New York," "The Road Warrior," "28 Days Later" and "Resident Evil," but those with a taste for revved-up, splattery fantasy thrills won't be complaining.
Read the full reviewMarshall?s fixation on John Carpenter and early James Cameron is all too apparent, but his own distinctive cinematic style isn?t, making Doomsday a likeably rambling but generic shoot-?em-up.
Read the full reviewDoomsday tries to cram so much into its limited 105 minutes that aspects end up feeling rushed and confused (especially the political situation in England) and the ending is perfunctory.
Read the full reviewMarshall cribs whole sections from other movies (Aliens and The Road Warrior, most blatantly) so baldly that you have to wonder how he'd like it if someone ripped off "The Descent" this egregiously.
Read the full reviewJust to shake things up a little, I guess, the creators of the laughably over-the-top Doomsday thought it might be fun to turn the survivors of a deadly epidemic, rather than its victims, into maniacal murderers.
Read the full reviewMitra, clad in the requisite tight, sexy outfits, conveys a suitable toughness but little in the way of personality, while such distinguished British actors as Bob Hoskins and Adrian Lester dutifully show up to collect their paychecks.
Read the full reviewIn terms of story, ?The Descent? and Doomsday are as different as two genre films can be, but the falloff in artistic quality is still quantifiable. Where ?The Descent? was a slow, quiet, exquisitely modulated, startlingly original film, Doomsday is frenetic, loud, wildly imprecise and so derivative that it doesn?t so much seem to reference its antecedents as try on their famous images like a child playing dress-up. Homage without innovation isn?t homage, it?s karaoke.

Not Funny, just stoopid
"This is one of the worst movies ever next to Howard the Duck. Some movies are so bad they're funny, this one is so bad it pi$$es you off. Nothing makes any sense in this movie. This movie is a cheap spin on movies like Mad Max, Escape from NY, 28 Days, and Cyborg with Jean Claud. If you just want to see an angry movie with no likeable characters, especially the protagonist who is just an angry girl with no sense, or maybe if you're just mad at the government go watch this - it has all the worst cliches you can imagine. If the directer took it a bit farther with the stupid humor and did a little character development and maybe some female nudity I might rate this a little higher as a black humor movie, but it fails even that mark. Some people in the theater laughed when she clicked the car alarm and the busted rear view mirror dropped, sorry that's just not funny, it's not dumb humor or bad humor, it's just not worth watching and should have been edited out. There are other scenes where people get run over and pop like zits, but I didn't see much humor in that either. I did like the props and costumes of the punk anarchists but other than that I couldn't get past the lack of thought that went into the making of this movie: stupid, stupid, stupid. Save your money."
not a slow moment
"this movie was probably the first movie in a while that didnt have one boring moment.it was nearly all violence not as much gore as youd think. it was just a new twist on post apocalypse"
dont waste your time
"this movie was a complete waste of time and money. at first it seems kind of like an extremely violent version of mad max, with almost a Tarantino vibe, but dont be fooled, the plot never really gets off the ground, and the acting is weak. im normally a fan of violent gory movies, but doomsday pushes it to the point of nausea. be ready for some graphic cannibalism. i think this movie had real potential, but the bottom line is that it sucked."
Doomsday
"There must be some gloomy premonitions in Merry Ole England of late. They have been treating us to some very depressing visions of the future such as The Children of Men and V for Vendetta. Neil Marshall who previously directed The Decent is back with Doomsday. Read my full review at johnhuntspace.com/doomsday.html"
This went from bad to worse
"The plot and characters were very thin in the beginning. It will get better I told myself. As the movie progressed, the juvenility of the screen writers grew louder in every scene. The move did not get better, but got worse. One reviewer called it "mindless entertainment". That is half right ... it was *not* entertaining. I walked out about 50 minutes into it. I have not walked out of a movie since 1982. That was a waste of time and money."
SHUT DOWN YOUR BRAIN AND ENJOY THE SPLATTER
"Will own on blu ray. This is an awesome guy flick leave the skirt at home unless she is down with the comic gore. Chick on chick I mean hot, chick on chick sword fight ending in beheading. How good is that. Hot chick vs. big burly knight in shining armor and she spikes him w pickaxe. A bently continental gt car chase w/human roadkill. All of you windbags need to wake up and smell the red hot cannibal action and get some splatter."
I had fun just reading the reviews...
""I loved it, even the car chase" (?) !!!! ....the CAR CHASE??? oh my God, where the hell is our culture going??Roger FultonYuma, Arizona"
Eye-popping epic
"Doomsday won me over the moment I saw Eden's removable eye(she has a prosthetic eye) with a tiny camera inside to record stuff with(very Scifi). The movie is massively over the top from the first few minutes, with a blood spattering massacre at the new Great Wall of Scotland, and then a sequence where Eden takes a bunch of random bad guys. (There's a naked woman in the bathtub, so of course she has a shotgun with her. Who wouldn't?) And it just gets crazier and crazier. Strap yourself in tight cause you're going on the ride of your life. It is a thrilling, gory and epic masterpiece. It's 2038 and Eden is sent into London to locate a cure for a 2nd outbreak of the Reaper virus. Her task once she joins her crew beyond the quarantine wall, will be anything but easy. The savage survivors who've been shunned by their own goverment, are very angry to say the least and will stop at nothing to stop Eden"
Funny Movie. But I don't think it was meant to be....
"This movie is so terrible that I liked it. The plot would've been better if a more experienced writer/director had done it. The music was hillarious, totally unfitting for this movie. but the main character was really hot, and kicking butt, so I was intrigued."
sucked
"this movie was so bad its funny. you will get a good laugh."
