It's refreshing to see Gondry's moviemaking still possessed by the community spirit he caught a few years ago with "Dave Chappelle's Block Party."
Read the full reviewThe visual wit, game performances, and overflowing humanity have more than made up for the shortcomings by the time the film finds a final moment that's simultaneously abrupt and magical.
Read the full reviewIn its sweet, lackadaisical way, Michel Gondry?s Be Kind Rewind illuminates the pleasures and paradoxes of movie love.
Read the full reviewThe films of Michel Gondry aren't for everyone, but viewers who vibe to his playful, cerebral, wildly imaginative sensibility might get a kick out of Be Kind Rewind.
Read the full reviewIt's an exuberant, fanciful fable set amid the scruffy outskirts of American society, where people's need for escapism coincides with their desire to participate in its creation.
Read the full reviewThere's nothing not to like about the movie, a teensy, hand-crocheted trifle, fitted with embroidered pockets of guest stardom, including Mia Farrow as the nice local lady who wants to see what "Ghostbusters" is all about and "Ghostbusters'" own Sigourney Weaver as a movie-studio corporate meanie, ha-ha.
Read the full reviewPredictable this isn't, but that can be seen as both an asset and a detriment.
Read the full reviewWhimsy with a capital W. No, it's WHIMSY in all caps. Make that all-caps italic boldface. Oh, never mind. I'm getting too whimsical.
Read the full reviewGondry and the gifted indie cinematographer Ellen Kuras have fun with the amateur versions of the likes of "RoboCop," "Rush Hour," "2001: A Space Odyssey," "King Kong" and "Driving Miss Daisy." These snippets are fun but frustratingly brief.
Read the full reviewSweet-natured and likable as the movie is, it never really delivers on the promise of its ingenious premise, which hints at a subversive retelling of mainstream Hollywood movies but stops short at goofy homage.
Read the full reviewFeels slight and repetitive, even when there is no actual rewinding going on.
Read the full reviewAn unambiguous celebration of the state of preadolescent fixation. The movie is perhaps best understood as a 12-year-old boy: You want to give it a hug and then yell at it to pick up after itself.
Read the full reviewIt's a quick trip from whimsy to silliness in Be Kind Rewind, a notably ephemeral work by Michel Gondry, whose flights of fancy can't overcome the egregious illogic of the premise.
Read the full reviewInside 10 minutes, at most 15, Be Kind Rewind reveals itself as an awful mess, and it only gets worse.

Don't waist your time or money
"Wow..love Jack Black, but so dissapointed. I wanted to switch movie's 10 minutes into it. I really couldn't wait for it to end. Hubby hated it to. Don't waist your time or money on this one!"
What in THE Hell was THAT?
"While my wife and I are both Jack Black fans, this movie was unwatchable. I mean horrible. Knowing what I know now, I would not even advise watching in when it comes out on HBO. It was THAT bad. Definately do not pay to watch it..."
Horrible!!
"I thought I went to see a comedy...It was A dry plottless movie that had nothing to offer the public 30 minutes into it I looked at my daughter and asked her what we were watching...she had no idea either..then I remembered someone once told me you could get a refund if you are not 30 minutes into the movie...we were 32 minutes in...so we were stuck there!!!!So Bad!!!!!!!!!!!"
What the hell??????????
"Soooo bad...I had to get up and leave. My girl loves movies..all movies and led the way out. I am thinking of suing all involved with that project."
Very Funny! Worth your money!!!
"The last Jack Black comedies I saw (school of rock and nacho libre) had me 2nd guessing Jack as a good actor. However I saw this yesterday and I laughed my head off. A movie you want to see with a full house it adds to the comedy and also very appropriate for kids. Definitely nothing PG-13 about it but kids may not get all the movie parodies if they haven't seen the originals. The night "Ghost busters" scene might've been the funniest thing I've seen this year. The ending is a little out of nowhere (not a big set up) but still go see it. Hell it's better then Semi-Pro.....and when a movie ends where the audience watches the credits, it's a success in my book."

A happy movie...
"The message learned by this movie more than compensates for the unbelievable premise that it's based upon. If you must go to the movies, -and you've already watched Spiderwick, -you could do worse by seeing something else other than Be Kind Rewind. It's a nice whimpy movie to take your girlfriend to, just so that she thinks that you may have a sensitive side. Awe gee...Oh by the way, Jack Black is genius."
Expected Pleasure!!!!
"Not what I expected......Thought I was going to see a silly JB movie, but instead found myself in the thick of a very charming yet profound movie about the human condition and the importance of community. Well-played...M. Gondry...well-played,indeed. Mos Def was "right on the money"(acting-wise) and JB appropriately geared-down the yucks to play a quirky yet poignant character. A good pairing of talents. Go see it and enjoy!!!"
very appropriate for children 10
"This movie is awesome and for all you parents that are worried that if your kids go see this it will set a bad influence on them, it doesnt. It's hilarious and appropriate."
This film sucks!!!
"This is one of the most stupid films I have ever seen. It was poorly done and it had very few moments of laughter. I want my money back. Jack Black has really went downhill on this one. Don't go see this film!!"
