Thesps agree to 'Be Kind'
08/17/06Mos Def, Melonie Diaz, Mia Farrow and Danny Glover have joined the cast of Michel Gondry's comedy "Be Kind Rewind," starring Jack Black. Shooting starts Sept. 5 in Passaic, N.J. New Line won the bidding last spring for domestic distribution rights. Gondry also scripted "Rewind," in which Black will portray a goofball who becomes magnetized trying to sabotage a power plant and then erases all the tapes in the videostore while visiting a pal (played by Mos Def) who works there and his co-worker (Diaz). The friends then re-create and refilm every movie that the store's only loyal customer decides to rent.

05/16/06New Line has won the bidding for domestic distribution rights to Michel Gondry's comedy "Be Kind Rewind," to star Jack Black. Pic gives New Line its second Black comedy, as the studio opens "Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny" on Nov. 17. Black will be seen next in Paramount/Nick's "Nacho Libre."
Focus Int'l is 'Kind' to Gondry
05/01/06Focus Features Intl. has scooped up overseas sales and distrib rights to writer-helmer Michel Gondry's upcoming "Be Kind Rewind" starring Jack Black. Pics stars Black as a man who becomes accidentally magnetized while trying to sabotage a power plant. His magnetic field erases all the tapes in the video store where his best friend works. To save the store, the duo re-enact and re-film every movie that its single loyal customer, an elderly woman, rents.
