A confidently original, engrossing interpretation.

A rousing, reverent, often brilliant re-creation of a seminal comics character, Batman Begins proves Batman is at home in the 21st century as he was in the 20th.

This is the Batman movie I've been waiting for; more correctly, this is the movie I did not realize I was waiting for, because I didn't realize that more emphasis on story and character and less emphasis on high-tech action was just what was needed. The movie works dramatically in addition to being an entertainment. There's something to it.

A carefully thought out and consummately well-made piece of work, a serious comic-book adaptation that is driven by story, psychology and reality, not special effects.

For Christopher Nolan to turn Batman Begins into such a smart, gritty, brooding, visceral experience is astonishing. Truly, Batman does begin again.

The New York Times | Manohla Dargis

Conceived in the shadow of American pop rather than in its bright light, this tense, effective iteration of Bob Kane's original comic book owes its power and pleasures to a director who takes his material seriously and to a star who shoulders that seriousness with ease.

The action scenes are, for the most part, kinetic and exciting - things that have rarely been true of fights and chases in the superhero's previous incarnations.

In Batman Begins, Christian Bale gives us the best Bruce Wayne that has ever graced the screen.

The buildup is steadily engrossing. That's because Nolan keeps the emphasis on character, not gadgets. Gotham looks lived in, not art-directed.

Best of all, there's just the pleasure of seeing something that's both fantastic to the eye and emotionally dimensional. This is how to make action movies.

Batman Begins summons up moments of great eloquence and power. If only its cast of characters was as fully inhabited as its turbulent city.

Ambitious, well made but not exactly rousing.

The movie is satisfying, though -- at least by the standards of that depressing phenomenon, the superhero "franchise."

The early going -- say, an hour -- is spent in a fatigued daze. A few powerful jabs eventually punch things up.

A good as the performances are, and as dutiful as Nolan has been in preserving the Kane legacy in Batman Begins, there's something joyless about the enterprise.

watch the Batman movies for the beautiful actresses in them :)

"After all the Batman movies that have been out to date , exception of Batman , Batman Forever and Batman Ilike the best , only complaint I have ; why change leadingladies every film ? Kate Holmes was a beautiful actress and worthy equal to Batman ; She had talent and grace aswell as beauty , the other beautiful actress I loved watchingin a Batman movie was Nicole Kidman ; I thought KimBasinger was overated actually . The other women I don'twant to review about . Especially Michelle Pfeifer , If I spelledher last name right . she was good as Catwoman , but her roleas Catwoman was never done right , go new Batman ..... Hopethis JokerIin the next Batman movie can top Jack Nicholson as the Joker ; but Jack was the best villian to date , be it in anyBatman movie or movie peroid , Jack is still the best Rkallao@aol.com"

Batman,the dark knight or not?

"This movie was good in some parts and bad in some parts. Will this be the end of the Batman movies, because I mean, the ratings aren't all that great if you know what I mean!"

SUCCESS!

"Batman Begins, when I heard my Film Literature teacher say this name, I felt like it was just a movie that I'd get a nap occasionally through. By the time the movie started and I began watching intently, I got into the movie. The plot, I understood it completely. In fact I was explaining what had happened to other people in the class. I give Batman Begins 2 thumbs up, and I compliment on those batty looking abs, God that was wonderful Lol."

Best of the worst.

"I do admit this Batman movie is better than the previous films. However, the latest addition to the Batman movies took too long to make the point and wavered from one point of Bruce Wayne's life to another...too frequently to a point where things become a little confusing. I thought the beginning of the movie had a strong base...but when Bruce went back to Gotham..things started to wither and die.. If you are thinking of buying on this DVD... Don't even bother because it's something you'd only want to watch once because of it's mood and tone. This movie leaves room for a sequal...I just might die..."

The greatest Movie I have seen in years!

"Since all, and I mean all so called super hero movies are pure ignorance, and stupidity, I was shocked to stumble into this movie by channel changing. I was floored the instant I caught seconds of it. The Batman character was a true warrior, and not a fool like Clooney, Keaton, and Kilmer. With his powerful, chosen short words in a deep voice, and road rage deliverance, he changed this cheesy Batman character of the past into a Kickass, ninja styled, believable character, with intelligence. " It is not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me"(BATMAN). God bless you writers and actors, because you floored me."

babysweetpea247 | 06/14/2006 01:00 AM Notify

best batman movie ever!

""BEST BATMAN MOVIE!" Even though I've only seen this one and part of Batman and Robin, this is definitly the best. The other one was scary and confusing. (It made me look at Arnold Schwartzenneiger in a whole new way)"

Huh?

"Lots of people love this movie. At first I thought it was awsome, but then I said,"Isn't this suppose to be a Batman movie?""
