Entertainment Weekly | Owen Gleiberman

The fun of 21 is the way that this sharp, hyperaware star in the making, his face as readable as a mood ring, pours us into an adrenalized cocktail of fear, desire, and mental buzz.

21 drags itself to a climax that puts credulity in splints. So what? In a multiplex of dumb-luck hits, it's a kick to watch Spacey and a gifted young cast use smarts to deal audiences a winning hand.

Picture shrewdly shuffles together attractive young leads, cagey screen vets and a fantasy-fulfillment scenario in a slickly polished package that should appeal to anyone who's ever dreamed of beating the odds.

While not exactly a zero, 21 lags and fails to measure up dramatically.

A movie with an irresistible premise that ultimately collapses around the whole issue of motivation. Until it does, this is a thoroughly entertaining picture.

What might have been a complex story dealing with greed and high-stakes betrayal among the young intellectual elite in America's gaming playground is instead treated as a slick, glossy romp.

Greed is good and comes without a hint of conscience in 21, a feature-length bore about some smarty-pants who take Vegas for a ride.

Boston Globe | Ty Burr

The movie's chief audience, consequently, will probably be gullible and young, responding to the cliches only because they haven't seen them before. They have a word in Vegas for these people: Suckers.

Good....but expected more

"21 got a lot of hype and had a decent cast as well as an interesting plot. It was a good movie...but not as good as expected and left me wanting something more...there were some key scenes that were great, and the movie was action packed enough to keep me engaged....but never quite got to the level or excitement or gave that twist that makes you say "what a great movie". Not a waste of money and not quite bad enough to wait for dvd...it was just a good movie."

Definitley not bad at all

"Sure not the best movie out there but it was entertaining the whole way through. I effin love Kevin Spacey and Jim Sturgess. It was definitley predictable too. If i had a choice i would have waited for this to come out on my T.V to rent it. Really and truely though thats only cause if your gunna tell me i have to pay 9.50 to watch something it better be pretty damn awesome. Despite the fact that this movie was good it wasnt pretty damn awesome."

The hand is in favor for this movie

"Wow. Jim Sturgess doesn't cease to amaze me with his talents in acting. Not only did he blow people away with his singing/acting in Across the Universe, but his love affair with Kate Bosworth in this steamy new movie "21" was astounding! I give this movie two thumbs up with a standing ovation!-a fan"

Terrible Terrible Terrible Movie

"I went to this movie with seven people, all of whom have different tastes in movies. Within the first thirty minutes we all wanted to leave. It was the worst movie I have seen in years, and I cannot understand how people could like it. Please do not see this movie unless you are under the age of fourteen or a complete moron."

21 is one of this year's best!

"If you haven't seen this movie yet, you have truly missed out on a great one! I had no idea what gambling was like and I honestly enjoyed this movie a great deal. There are some surprises in it too and it teaches a good lesson. Go see it! It is worth your money I promise."

Pretty Good Movie !!!

"This movie exceeded my expectations. It was a very compelling story, even if you're not into gambling. The cast was great and the audience laughed out loud several times. Also, it didn't have a lot of foul language and it showed how greed can take control over somebody's life in no time. It was well worth the time and money to see it."

Great Movie

"Jim Sturgess, first of all, was amazing! He alone was enough to make this movie a must see. He was in Across the Universe, which I assume most of you saw. In Across the Universe, he didn't do hardly any speaking or acting. This movie really shows that aspect of him. The other thing I loved about this movie was that it had a great plot. It was cleaverly written. My only critisism was that it was lacking the suprising twist aspect. Other than that, this movie was a great movie with one of the best endings to a movie I have EVER seen! A perfect combination of triumph, defeat, and as the last song in the movie says, "You can't always get what you want". This movie is a must see for the whole family! Bravo 21!"

Pretty Good!

"I thought this movie was going to be a lot worst, but I will admit that I did leave the theater a few times to avoid the weird parts when they were at the club and when they were getting beat up by that man. Besides that I would totally reccomend it!"
