'Love Actually'
"It's one of the first movies that I think about, especially in the romance genre. I think the best part about it is that you don't just have to be in love with a person -- the movie urged you to be in love with life and with love itself." -- Su
'Somewhere in Time'
"This 'cult' epic is the most incredible story of love ever put on film. The sacrifice of Christopher Reeve's very existence for the unexplainable yet incalculable love of Jane Seymour has me in tears every one of the 27 times I have viewed (it)." -- Gary
'When Harry Met Sally'
"Regardless of the humor in it, 'When Harry Met Sally' is quite possibly the single finest romantic script ever written. One day I'll write something as good as Billy Crystal's New Year's Eve speech, then I'll quit, happy." -- Phil Smith
'Romeo and Juliet'
"What happened to the 1968 classic 'Romeo and Juliet,' with Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting, directed by Franco Zefferelli? It's still one of my all-time faves." -- DJ
'To Catch a Thief'
"The classic movies are the best. Subtle references, double entendres, risque situations, nothing graphic (or pornographic). Does romance and passion get any better than Cary Grant and Grace Kelly in 'To Catch a Thief'?"
-- Jim
'Tomorrow Is Forever'
"This is an oldie but a wonderful love story ... It's sure worth your time and you'll never forget it. It stars Orson Welles, Claudette Colbert and George Brent. Don't ever underestimate a movie because of its age."
-- Norma J. O'Neil
'Before Sunrise'/
'Before Sunset'
"It's unfortunate that 'Before Sunrise' and 'Before Sunset' are not on the list. Those two stories of 'what could be' and 'what might have been' are pitch perfect." -- Heather
'Random Harvest'
"'Random Harvest' has to be my favorite film as a romance ... It chronicles a tender romance in the aftermath of WWI. Ronald Colman and Greer Garson play their roles with subtlety and passion, and both stars are exquisitely beautiful." -- Lucy
'Pretty Woman'
"It's got it all -- modern Cinderella story, great stars, laughs, poignant moments, wonderful ending what more could you want?"
-- bookwormkc
'The Ghost and Mrs. Muir'
"My all-time favorite is 'The Ghost and Mrs. Muir' ... how this could not have made the list truly baffles my mind! Even though the movie is much older than I am, it gets me every time!" -- Julie
'Dirty Dancing'
"It was a very heartstring-tugging movie. You have many different romantic relationships going on: Baby (Jennifer Grey) and Johnny (Patrick Swayze), Baby and the owner's nephew, Robbie and the sister, Robbie and the dancer... " -- trej24
'Dangerous Beauty'
"It is hot, hot, hot! Love, passion, betrayal, love renewed, love triumphant."
-- MMJohnston
'Splendor in the Grass'
"'Splendor in the Grass' may be about parental misunderstanding, but as a romance film, it is quite compelling. Natalie Wood and Warren Beatty's undeniable chemistry is the real reason to watch this classic movie."
-- David Hollingsworth
'P.S. I Love You'
"My favorite romance movie is a new one on the horizon, 'P.S. I Love You,' starring Gerard Butler and Hilary Swank. Bring your box of tissues. Loved it!!!"
-- Debra Fair
'Out of Africa'
"Meryl Streep at her loveliest. Robert Redford at his heart-stopping handsomest (who cares if he didn't have an English accent?!). The two of them flying over the African Savannah ... Bring out the second box of Kleenex..."
-- devaflowers
'The Story of Us'
"It seems as though many people forget or haven't even seen 'The Story of Us' with Michelle Pfeiffer and Bruce Willis ... This is one of the best romance movies ever because it depicts relationships the way they really are and not the fairytale stuff." -- alys2316
'The African Queen'
"Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn are the most unlikely pair to fall in love. Bogart's line when he asks the captain to marry them is a classic and shows true love. He says, 'Because it will make her happy.'" -- Ann Henderson
'Benny and Joon'
"'Benny and Joon' is such a beautiful love story! It's heartwarming and whimsical and features a young Johnny Depp at his quirky best!"
-- cyeun
'Now, Voyager'
It has all the emotion and yearning for lost love without the emotional manipulation of someone dying. And it has one of the best last lines ever, 'Oh Jerry, don't let's ask for the moon, we have the stars.'"
-- Lexi
'Bridges of Madison County'
"'Bridges of Madison County' would definitely make my top 5! Every time I see it, I can't believe that I am finding adultery romantic." -- fft5305
'Sliding Doors'
"My all-time favorite romance movie is 'Sliding Doors' with Gwyneth Paltrow and John Hannah. I'm sure every woman would like to see both sides of the future, should I stay or should I go?" -- Doreen
'The Sound of Music'
"It's such a sweet romance -- nun leaves convent to be a nanny, makes a party dress from curtains, teaches the kids to sing, captures the heart of the prince, leaves the convent and marries him, escapes the Nazis. I could watch this a thousand times!" -- Kathleen
'The French Lieutenant's Woman'
"A film I re-watch at least once a year. It's classic -- mysterious woman, socially upright man, CHEMISTRY, opportunity, lust, guilt, shame, loss, suffering, ruination -- and that's in the first 60 minutes!" -- Geri
'Two for the Road'
"One of the most extraordinary love stories ever told on film! Audrey Hepburn and Albert Finney star in this touching and believable movie. In fact, Hepburn and Finney fell in love during the making of the film and it certainly shows in every frame..." -- Susan
'Fatal Attraction'
"I thought Glenn Close and Michael Douglas in 'Fatal Attraction' should have been on this list. You know a woman really likes you when she's a bunny boiler." -- Ryan
