What is Moviefone's privacy policy?

Moviefone, Inc. is strongly committed to protecting the privacy of consumers of its interactive products and services. Throughout cyberspace, we are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our consumers' information. Information Disclosure
This statement outlines the privacy practices of MOVIEFONE.COM, as well as MOVIEFONE.COM branded pages. We have clearly marked MOVIEFONE.COM and co-branded Web sites with our logo so you know where this policy applies. It does not apply to other companies' or organizations' Web sites to which we link. You should check their privacy policies to understand how they may collect or use information about you.

MOVIEFONE.COM collects only information necessary to enhance the user experience. We ask that our users enter their location so that we can offer them movie showtime and ticketing information in their individual area. If they choose not to enter their location, they are still free to browse our site; however, they will not be given showtime and ticketing information in their area. We also offer an option to sign up for our mail service, called MOVIEMAIL. If users select this option, and only if they select this option, they are asked to give their e-mail addresses in order to receive the mail, ZIP codes because the MOVIEMAIL sent gives showtimes in their areas, and genre preferences so that the mail product that they receive matches their taste in movie genres. The only personally identifiable information collected by MOVIEFONE.COM is information that you provide voluntarily.

If you place an order through a merchant on MOVIEFONE.COM, the merchant will need to collect information from you to complete your request. (We recommend that you read the privacy policies of merchants for specific information.)

Cookies
MOVIEFONE.COM collects information about general usage of the site through a technology tool called a "cookie." The cookie is a piece of computer software that communicates between your computer and MOVIEFONE.COM and is used to gather information about the number and frequency of visits to the MOVIEFONE.COM site. This data is immediately aggregated, and is used just like the ratings information compiled by television networks to determine how many people tuned into a program. These cookies allow us to distinguish unique users of MOVIEFONE.COM (i.e. user A, user B, user C), but do not allow MOVIEFONE.COM to identify you specifically by name unless you volunteer this information. We use the information you give us to enhance the user experience and improve the quality of our site. MOVIEFONE.COM automatically logs information such as IP addresses, ISPs and browser types into files for many general purposes. We collect this information for reporting, advertising, and general site click-through rates. We gather a wide range of demographic information to track user patterns and movement and for advertising and general click-through numbers. We use this aggregate information we collect to improve the site and your experience while visiting.

We Keep Your Information Secure
The personally identifiable information you provide to us is protected by state-of-the-art technology called the Secure Sockets Layer Protocol to ensure that your credit-card transaction with MOVIEFONE.COM has the highest level of security available. MOVIEFONE.COM uses this security software to encrypt your credit-card information so that it cannot be read as your ticketing order travels over the Internet. Just look for the closed key or lock on the bottom of your browser as an indicator that you are on a secure page. Access to data is limited to our Data Services and Development Teams and is also password protected. Web security is reviewed every six months and passwords are changed accordingly.

Communication
We do not share any personally identifiable information you provide with third parties without your permission. The option of granting permission will be clearly explained within the product sign-up, service registration or promotion. The exceptions are to comply with a valid legal process, such as a search warrant, subpoena or court order, otherwise comply with law, or to protect the rights or property of MOVIEFONE.COM or AOL TIME WARNER Inc. The only reason a user would receive mail from MOVIEFONE.COM is if they voluntarily sign up for our MOVIEMAIL product.

If a user chooses to submit a caption to the Insert Caption feature, the user's e-mail address will not be posted on MOVIEFONE.COM. The address is collected so that the user can be contacted in the event the user's caption is selected as a winner. The e-mail address is not used for any other purpose.

You Have the Choice to "opt out" or Update Your Current Information
At any time, you can go to the site and clear or change your location by using the "change location" option on the site, located on the showtimes and tickets pages, movie pages, and theater pages. We also offer users the option to "unsubscribe" from MOVIEMAIL. This option is located at the bottom of the subscription page on the site. Once a user chooses to "unsubscribe" from MOVIEMAIL, all correspondence ceases.

MOVIEFONE.COM does contain links to other Web sites. Please note that when you click on one of these links, you are going to another Web site. We encourage you to read the privacy statements of these linked sites, as their policies may differ from ours.
