The lovely Emma Roberts, daughter of Eric, niece of Julia and star of her own Nickelodeon show, 'Unfabulous,' takes on the formidable challenge of bringing iconic teen sleuth 'Nancy Drew' to modern times -- and the big screen. We chatted with the teen star about her famous friends and family, Nancy's interesting fashion choices ... and how NOT to get grounded.

EmmaIsNancyDrew: Hey its Emma
MoviefoneAngie: hi, there! how're you doing?
EmmaIsNancyDrew: hello Angie
EmmaIsNancyDrew: I'm doing good
EmmaIsNancyDrew: I'm at TRL having a lot of fun
MoviefoneAngie: oh, cool! i can see that you're having fun -- if the giant pink font is any indication!
[Ed. note: Though you can't see it on this page, Ms. Roberts' responses were indeed in an 18-point, bold, pink font]
EmmaIsNancyDrew: haha yeah
EmmaIsNancyDrew: Soooo let me know whenever you wanna start
MoviefoneAngie: it's good. it makes me laugh. is that your font of choice? are you known for the giant pink font? (oh, we're started!)
EmmaIsNancyDrew: oh hahah okay then@
EmmaIsNancyDrew: !*
EmmaIsNancyDrew: um well i guess it'll be my new signature
EmmaIsNancyDrew: i love pink
EmmaIsNancyDrew: I am also obsessed with red
MoviefoneAngie: i think that'd be good. so do i! purple is my very fave though. i guess nancy drew's signature would have to be plaid, wouldn't it?
EmmaIsNancyDrew: Yeah she loves doing a lot of cool patterns ... polka dots, stripes, plaid
EmmaIsNancyDrew: also very matching
outfits
EmmaIsNancyDrew: everything goes perfectly together
MoviefoneAngie: i loved the costumes in the movie -- the plaid on polka dots and stuff. did you have any influence on that?
EmmaIsNancyDrew: Well the costume designer and I talked about what patterns and colors we liked and then he sketched and designed all the outfits
MoviefoneAngie: oh, cool -- would you wear any of the nancy clothes in real life? or how about putting out a nancy drew
clothing line?
EmmaIsNancyDrew: I have noticed how I sometimes do some "nancy drew" type outfits. I love high waisted pants (which I'm wearing right now) and i also love polka dots and stripes!
EmmaIsNancyDrew: i think the nancy drew style is coming back a little!
EmmaIsNancyDrew: everyones doing headbands lately!
EmmaIsNancyDrew: haha
MoviefoneAngie: definitely! i could def see tweens into those styles. and they'd be so much better than the way a lot of kids dress now -- like the 2 girls in the movie
MoviefoneAngie: (who came around to nancy's style)
EmmaIsNancyDrew: haha yeah
EmmaIsNancyDrew: absolutely
MoviefoneAngie: did you read nancy drew books, either before or after being cast?
EmmaIsNancyDrew: I didnt read them when i was younger but i started reading them after i got the part
EmmaIsNancyDrew: i have not read all 57 though!
EmmaIsNancyDrew: just a few
MoviefoneAngie: yeah, that's a lot. they are classics though. and did you watch any old nancy drew movies or the old tv show?
EmmaIsNancyDrew: Yes! I watched all the old tv shows
EmmaIsNancyDrew: they are always on the old movie channel
EmmaIsNancyDrew: theyre really cute
MoviefoneAngie: oh, i loved those!! yeah, they def are. and the movie was so good at bringing nancy drew into today. she's a little old-fashioned, but the setting is completely current, and without there being that "brady bunch" movie anachronistic feel. does that make sense?
EmmaIsNancyDrew: haha yes exactly
EmmaIsNancyDrew: i think the way we modernized her was great because it didnt change her character too much
EmmaIsNancyDrew: just updated the story around her
MoviefoneAngie: right -- it so easily could've gone "scooby-doo" but it didn't
EmmaIsNancyDrew: yes!
EmmaIsNancyDrew: although i did like the Scooby Doo movies
EmmaIsNancyDrew: haha
MoviefoneAngie: of course! they're just more cartoonish
EmmaIsNancyDrew: haha
EmmaIsNancyDrew: yea
