AshtonGuardian: Hi
MoviefoneKevin: what up Ashton?
AshtonGuardian: nada mucho
AshtonGuardian: you?
MoviefoneKevin: chilling. how's Toronto?
AshtonGuardian: just kick'n it
AshtonGuardian: saw volver last night
AshtonGuardian: cool flick
MoviefoneKevin: definitely. I could watch Penelope Cruz do dishes any day
AshtonGuardian: right
AshtonGuardian: been cranking on myspace
AshtonGuardian: im up to 6k friends
AshtonGuardian: donating 1$ to habitat for humanity for each friend
AshtonGuardian: up to 50k
MoviefoneKevin: nice!
MoviefoneKevin: so I'm like the James Lipton of Instant Messaging. hope you're ready
MoviefoneKevin: there could be some crying
AshtonGuardian: lets kick it
MoviefoneKevin: congrats on The Guardian. be honest, how much of your motivation for signing on was to have your own Top Gun?
AshtonGuardian: didn't really think of it that way. I read the script and found these guys to be really unique.
AshtonGuardian: checked out top gun later to make sure it wasn't too similar
AshtonGuardian: I think we pulled off an original
MoviefoneKevin: gotcha. did you go through any sort of rigorous training for the role? sleep in bath full of ice or anything like that?
AshtonGuardian: I trained for about 8 months leading up to the film. then we did a 2 week boot camp. i was pretty water logged
AshtonGuardian: 8hrs in the water a day will kick your ass
MoviefoneKevin: damn
MoviefoneKevin: spend much time with Coast Guard servicemen?
AshtonGuardian: yeah, we went to the actual A school for a week and then hung out for hours on and off the set
MoviefoneKevin: nice. do you think you could survive the military?
AshtonGuardian: I'd do alright for a while. But I don't think i'd be happy
AshtonGuardian: I have trouble staying inside the box
MoviefoneKevin: I hear that. esp once they try to take your hair
AshtonGuardian: I wouldn't mind that. it's the yes sir no sir business that would make me crazy
MoviefoneKevin: speaking of, what goes into perfecting the "Oooh-ra!" chant we hear so often in The Guardian?
AshtonGuardian: say it loud and proud like you wanna be there
AshtonGuardian: ooh rah is a noun a verb and an adjective
AshtonGuardian: it can mean anything
MoviefoneKevin: it's a beautiful phrase.
MoviefoneKevin: considering so much of your career has been in comedy, do you expect people won't immediately take you seriously in a role like this?
AshtonGuardian: I was a little concerned about it but I've watched the film with an audience and we pull it off. Death has a tendency to make people buckle down
MoviefoneKevin: definitely. did you bond much with Kevin Costner on set?
AshtonGuardian: Kevin Costner is the man! I'm from Iowa so If you build it they will come is like a mantra of mine. this film is really the return of the big blockbuster Costner and I'm just proud to be a part of it.
AshtonGuardian: the great thing about him is he's the only guy in the world that doesn't know he's a movie star
